Lance Corporal Farr had served with the 2nd Royal Fusiliers in Gallipoli but at the time of his death from an unspecified sickness on 14th November, 1915, he had returned home and was serving with 5th Royal Fusiliers. This was one of the reserve battalions of the Royal Fusiliers and as such they remained in the United Kingdom throughout the war, recruiting and training men who were then sent to join one of the many battalions that the regiment had fighting  overseas.
